This month our Treasurer Chris(tine) Taylor comes under the spotlight.

How long have you been a member of the Club?
I joined the club following my retirement in 2011

How did you get into photography?
I had always been interested in photography, but only really taking photographs on holidays and taking photos that I could use to produce a painting. It was only since my retirement, and receiving a small inheritance, that I bought my first DSLR camera; previously I had just had a Panasonic higher spec compact camera.

What's your favourite area/genre/subject of photography?
I quite enjoy most subjects but probably take more floral photos. I am trying to make myself go out more and take other subjects looking at different angles, unusual themes and different compositions. I am also trying to learn photoshop along with some help from Barry’s classes.

What camera do you currently use?
A Canon 500D with the original lens. I was given the 70-250mm lens as a retirement gift and have recently purchased a 18-135mm lens which I will probably use more as I think it will give me more options when out and about. I also have a Canon Power Shot SX230hs which I try to remember to carry in my handbag to cover all eventualities.

What is the most frustrating thing about (your) photography?
There is so much to learn about using the different aspects of the camera such as getting the depth of field right and get everything in focus, getting used to using the manual mode, taking photos in raw and being able to post edit them.

Favourite Places for photography?
I have enjoyed taking photos on the many holidays we have had especially the Baltic trip but cannot say that I have one favourite place but look for photos wherever I am.

If you could photograph one thing/person anywhere in the world what would it be and why?
I visited Iceland some time ago with the hope of seeing and photographing the Northern Lights. – They did not appear!! I will be travelling up the Norwegian coast in February so I am hoping that I they will appear and maybe, once I have put on numerous layers of clothes, I will be able to take some photos.

Do you have any photographers who have inspired you?
I do not have a particular photographer but enjoy looking on the Web at various sites and am amazed at the variety available. I particularly enjoy visiting the Photographic Angle exhibitions held in Leeds and find these quite inspiring. The speakers we have had at the club certainly give inspiration.

What's your dream camera?
I would eventually like to progress to another Canon camera, perhaps one of the semi-professional series but the cameras are being improved all the time so when the time comes – who knows.

How could you improve your own photography?
Practice, practice, practice – perhaps I should take my own advice!!
